Piastri improves to second, exactly a tenth of a second off his team mate.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli manages to string three personal best sectors together on softs and goes fourth, but half a second off Norris.
Norris improves to a 1’14.897 and is now 0.181s ahead of Verstappen.
Lots of drivers struggling to improve their times on the softs. Leclerc twitches wide in Tamburello and touches the gravel.
Piastri on the softs now, he’s fastest in sector one, then goes wide at Acque Minerali and backs off. Verstappen beats his time in the first sector but also fails to improve at the end of the lap. The softs don’t look up to a full flying lap around Imola.
Carlos Sainz Jnr has popped up into third place in the Williams. Meanwhile Russell reports “ride is definitely a bit worse today.”
Alpine has fitted a new power unit to Franco Colapinto’s car – he has of course taken over Jack Doohan’s allocation.
Lawson has a spin at Tamburello, much as his team mate Hadjar did yesterday, though he’s managed not to get stuck.
George Russell: “Quite a bit of bouncing into turn five. Not lap time-limit but feels a bit odd.” That’s Villeneuve he’s talking about.
Norris goes for a lap straight after Verstappen and is fastest of all in the middle sector, but 0.139s off the Red Bull when he crosses the line.
Verstappen takes over at the top with a 1’15.130 which puts him 0.378s ahead of Hadjar.
Not for the first time this weekend Fernando Alonso is complaining about being impeded by a rival, and again it’s Leclerc. However it did rather look like Alonso would have known he would encounter Leclerc’s car at the exit of the final corner given where he started accelerating to begin his flying lap.
Isack Hadjar sets a new benchmark with a 1’15.508 and is now 0.021s ahead of Charles Leclerc.
Liam Lawson says he went wide at Piratella and asks his team to check his floor.
Lando Norris can’t beat the Red Bull driver’s time either but he gets within a tenth of a second.
Oscar Piastri goes quickest but Max Verstappen immediately beats his time by a quarter of a second.
The McLarens and Red Bulls have joined the track now, medium rubber for all four.
Oliver Bearman slots into second place with a lap on the softs, followed by Pierre Gasly.
Lewis Hamilton puts up a 1’16.983 on mediums.
After a quiet start to the session we’ve got out first cars out on the track. The Aston Martin drivers head out, both now running the update the team introduced yesterday.
Pirelli has reduced the minimum rear starting pressures for this weekend by 1psi. The rear pressures for slicks have been cut from 22.5psi to 21psi.
