Andrea Kimi Antonelli has worked his way up to second-fastest, making it a Mercedes one-two at the moment.

The Williams and Racing Bulls are well up again – Sainz second and Albon fourth at the moment, plus Hadjar sixth.

Russell has taken the top time back from Norris, though he got crossed up in the nasty little chicane before the back straight.

Norris, his cockpit problems seemingly resolved, takes over at the top with a 1’28.391 and is now 0.097s ahead of Russell.

Russell lowers the best time to a 1’28.488 which puts him 0.146s ahead of Verstappen.

The times are improving rapidly. Max Verstappen improves to a 1’28.634 so he is 0.564s ahead of Carlos Sainz Jnr.

Oscar Piastri puts up the quickest time so far with a 1’29.660 so he is 0.138s ahead of Russell.

George Russell goes fastest with a 1’29.798 despite noting his steering feels “exceptionally heavy.” “I don’t know what’s going on, the car feels so different,” he adds.

The stewards have noted Norris for his car potentially being in an “unsafe condition”. They will investigate it after the session.

Tsunoda also pits, reporting his seat belt feel high.

Norris not very happy with what he’s discovered on his first run: “There’s just like so many tools in the cockpit. Everything’s just falling apart. Box this lap.”

First practice has begun at Miami International Autodrome.

McLaren, Ferrari, Haas and Racing Bulls all go into this weekend with the same cars as they had at previous rounds. Ferrari are running a special livery this weekend, but the wrap they used is lighter and thinner than the one they used at the same race 12 months ago, and they say it also has better heat resistance.

Alpine have made changes to their brake ducts and suspension at the front of the A525 with the aim of improving the car’s overall aerodynamic efficiency. Williams and Sauber also have minor tweaks to their beam wing and front suspension respectively.

Aston Martin, who have had a tough start to the season, will use revised front and rear wing parts this weekend. These are also less aggressive than their usual designs, again in order to suit the two particularly long acceleration zones at Miami.

Mercedes have brought their first update of the season but it’s a fairly modest change. They have a shallower rear wing flap designed to suit the downforce range at this circuit.

Despite the limited practice time, some teams have brought new parts for their cars this weekend. Red Bull have made revisions to the floor of their RB21, repositioning the floor fences and revising the floor edges, both with the goal of increasing the amount of downforce they generate.

It’s a sprint race weekend so the teams only have one practice and therefore none of them are running rookies in this session.

The first practice session for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix is coming up next.
