The Formula 1 drivers’ parade had a difference in Miami as the competitors toured the track in cars built partly from Lego.
The toy company, which has a sponsorship deal with F1, produced 10 cars styled on their toy models of the teams’ designs. Each had room for two, so the pairs of team mates were able to share the cockpit.
Only one of them got a steering wheel, of course. But the cars, running on real F1 tyres, were only capable of up to 20kph.
The cars took 22,000 hours to build and were shipped to Miami from Lego’s factory in Czechia. Each car was constructed from around 400,000 Lego bricks and weighed around 1,000 kilograms.
